Provisional Licenses..

For all of the 16 year olds out there, their 17th birthday is definitley an exciting one. For one, they may get there first car, but most importantly they get their license. Having a license means more freedom, being able to drive yourself whenever you need to go. But, having this provisional license there is certain laws to abide by. Some new drivers do follow the laws, but many do not. For example only one "friend" may be in the car at one time, but as many family members as you want. The new driver must also be done driving between 5:30am-12am. With these laws being broken, statistics are showing more and more fatal accidents with new drivers. Statistics show that each Year over 5,000 teens ages 16 to 20 Die due to Fatal injuries caused Car accidents. About 400,000 drivers age 16 to 20 will be seriously injured. Because of all of the teens breaking the law, a new one has been created. Kayleigh's law, influenced by the death of 16-year old Kayleigh D'Alessio is in affect as of tomorrow May 1st,2010. A red decal must be placed on the front and back plate of a driver with a provisional license. Another change is they must be done driving by 11pm. In my opinion, I think this is a stupid law, and should not have been passed. Teens are still going to drive the same way, it wont change any of that. Also, for most stories about fatal accidents, the driver wasn't obeying the law; maybe if they chose to follow the rules it could have ended up being different. For example: On December 4, 2004, at 3pm in Warrensburg, Illinois, two teenagers were killed in a car accident. Officers learned that the car was going over 100mph, before the driver lost control hitting an embankment before coming to a stop, completely flipped over. My point is made, the teen was going 100mph in probably a 25mph speed zone, he was breaking the law, and it could have been avoided if he was driving more carefully.
