Provisional license restrictions

"The law also alters the provisionary restrictions already set forth in New Jersey with the GDL (Graduated Driver's License) system.

Current restrictions:

  • Cannot drive between 12:01 am until 5:00 am.
  • Can only have one passenger from outside your household.
  • Can not use electronic devices while driving such as cell phones, hand held game systems, etc.
  • Seatbelts must be worn by everyone in the car.

Provisional license restrictions under law

Revised restrictions:

  • Cannot drive between 11:01 pm until 5:00 am.
  • Whenever operating a vehicle with a learner's permit, the holder of the permit may only have one additional passenger in the vehicle excluding member's of the license holder's household, except that this passenger restriction shall not apply when either the permit holder or one other passenger is at least 21 years of age.
  • Can not use electronic devices.
  • Seat belts must be worn at all times.
  • Red sticker must be worn on front and back license plates of the car identifying yourself as a teenage driver.

Failure to comply with any of these restrictions results in a $100 fine if pulled over."

******************THIS IS NOT FAIR******************

First of all, it is absolutely ridiculous that teens have to be home at 11. We are almost old enough to be in college, enlist in the military, and vote... BUT NOT DRIVE??!??!?!?!!! Second, its age profiling. It is dangerous. Very dangerous. Girls can get followed, raped, and killed. Its a target that says "hey look at me, I'm underage." I just hope nothing terrible happens with this law.
