Bret Michaels UPDATE

****this was copied and pasted from this website, it is not GSK's original words: * * http://www.catholic.org/ae/music/story.php?id=36406 *

"Singer Bret Michaels has been released from a Phoenix, Arizona hospital after suffering a near fatal brain hemorrhage last month. "Mr. Michaels was indeed a lucky person, a very lucky person," Dr. Joseph Zabramski said. Zabramski notes that 15 to 20 percent of those who suffer such ruptures don't live beyond the initial attack.

While Michaels is feeling much better, a side effect of the treatment will have him suffering back pain and spasms for several days due to what a doctor calls "chemical meningitis."

"The blood [that hemorrhaged in his brain] is starting to dissolve, which is very irritating to the brain and spinal cord. He's really suffering now.

"It takes about seven to 10 days more from now before this blood will completely dissolve and he'll really feel like he's on the mend and can resume all of his activities," the doctor said.

Doctors are crediting Michaels "will to live" as the reason behind his rapid recovery. Doctors say that he is "not walking very well, but he is talking very well."

"He has an unbelievable fight in him and told me what kept him alive at the moment of the hemorrhage was that he 'did not want his family to wake up and see him lying unconscious in the middle of the floor,'" Zabramski said.

The 47-year-old Michaels was the former lead singer for the heavy metal band Poison, and later become a reality TV show host on VH1's "Rock of Love with Bret Michaels.""
